Consumers Energy lowering renewable energy surcharge; change will save customers more than $22 a year

Starting this month, Consumers Energy is lowering its $2.50 monthly renewable energy surcharge to 65 cents, the Jackson-based utility planned to announce this morning. The change will save the average residential customer more than $22 a year.

Renewable energy companies in Michigan now employ more than 10,000 people, with a majority of the jobs created within in the last five years, according to a new analysis.
